How Firm A Foundation vs. 1

Sing (“The Wise Man and The Foolish Man” (281) while using the visuals of the houses, wise man, foolish man, sand and rocks in the pie tins. The houses are attached to paint sticks and they are in the sand or the rocks in the pie tins. When you sing "the rain came down...." begin pouring the water onto the rocks or the sand. The sand will wash away and make the house fall. (THE KIDS LOVE THIS)

Why did the house built on the rock stand firm when the floods came?

Why did the house built on the sand fall when the floods came?

Read Helaman 5:12 "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

Who should be the foundation in our lives? Christ (picture of Christ)

Sing the first phrase, “how firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord”

We are going to learn a song about building our foundation on Christ our Lord.

Share picture from wedding of you and Todd standing on the rock and the lesson that was taught and scripture that was read about us building our lives and marriage on Christ. So that has always been a favorite scripture and lesson.

Using the bricks, answer the questions attached to them and have them start to build a very small square out of the bricks. Answer the questions in order of the song and sing each phrase as you go.

  1. What is a firm foundation? (a strong and immovable base that something can be built on)
  2. Where do you lay the foundation? (on the bottom)
  3. Sing the 1st line.
  4. Where do we find his excellent word? (scriptures, prophets)
  5. How do we show faith in His excellent word? (by reading the scriptures, obeying the prophet)
  6. Sing the 2nd line.
  7. How do we talk with our Heavenly Father? (prayer)
  8. Listen while I sing the last two lines. How many times do we sing “Savior”?
  9. What is a refuge? (a place you go for safety)
  10. Who does the song say we go to for refuge?

After you have sang the song several times through, have someone come up and try to stand on the foundation (make sure it is built safely :) maybe just two layers or something like that). Bear your testimony of how the Savior is our sure foundation!"

Use the sand blocks to sing the song again.
